Our hard-working team enjoyed a day out to celebrate the end of year at Malibu Wine Safari. After a succesful 2017, which included acquiring and breaking ground on a few big projects, three successful sales of Francis, City Walk and St. Marks in New York and adding some serious talent to our team, it was a well-deserved treat to kick back. We drove through the Malibu mountains, we toured the vineyards and tasted some of the best red blends SoCal has to offer.

Malibu Wine Safaris takes visitors aboard open top safari vehicles to experience the beauty of Saddlerock Ranch. The tour begins by introducing some of the property’s friendly exotic animals. The safari continues into the working vineyards and ranch where an outdoor wine tasting showcases some of the wines grown onsite. The property, originally inhabited by the Chumash, is operated by the Semler Family.

The last year has not been easy for the head of a commercial real estate company. Inflation and the Fed’s response, as well as trends that emerged from the pandemic, have clearly had an impact on the industry across all of the sectors. Besides the effect of, say, ongoing remote work on the beleaguered office asset class or the slowing pace of rent increases in multifamily, these executives have also had to navigate an increasingly difficult capital markets environment. I have some bad news for this group: the near-term future doesn’t look any easier. Enter our selection of Best Bosses this year. This year’s picks were made at least in part based on their resiliency and ability to position their companies for future growth, whenever that might occur. We are confident these strengths will see them through what could be choppy waters ahead.
